The Monash University Alpine Lodge at Mt Buller offers comfortable and affordable accommodation in a great location. Located only 300 metres from the ticket office and chairlifts, the fully self contained lodge is managed all year round and offers good quality facilities in a friendly atmosphere. The Monash University Alpine Lodge is available to Monash staff, students and the general community to enjoy all year round.

The lodge

The lodge is self catering with a BYO licence and sleeps up to 43 guests. The communal kitchen is fully equipped with a commercial dishwasher and pantry space allocated to each room. Basic food necessities (tea, coffee, sugar) are also provided. This allows you the option of having a night in and cooking, or dining at one of the many restaurants at Mt Buller. Guests are responsible for cleaning their room during their stay. There is a roster for cleaning common communal areas during your stay, as determined by the manager.

The lounge and dining area provides a friendly atmosphere to unwind after a day of skiing. You can meet people and chat about your day, or relax with a good book. There is also a TV and DVD player available so that you can watch a movie and relax.

Rooms

All rooms are centrally heated with bunk beds and shared bathroom facilities (separate for men and women). Eight rooms comprise of 2 bunks allowing 4 persons per room and there are two rooms with 3 bunks allowing 6 persons per room. All necessary bedding (pillows, doonas, and extra blankets) is provided, although you must bring your own linen (including pillow slips and towels). Check in time is 5:00pm and check out time is 10:00am. We understand that you want to make the most of your time in Mt Buller, and luggage storage facilities are available in consultation with the lodge manager outside these times.

Only 3 hours drive from Melbourne, Mount Buller is a spectacular all year round resort providing many activities for both summer and winter enthusiasts.

Winter wonderland

During the winter, enjoy checking out 180 ha of ski trails from beginner through to advanced runs - plenty for everyone. There are 25 lifts with the longest trail of 2.5 km, and has the longest vertical drop in Victoria. To ensure good quality snow, Mt Buller has extensive snow making facilities.

Alpine summer

There is an abundance of summer activities for you to enjoy such as horse riding, alpine walking, mountain biking, mountain safaris and the facilities of the Australian Alpine Institute.

Location

Mt Buller is located only 230kms or approximately 3 hours drive from Melbourne. When travelling to Mt Buller during the ski season (June - September) all two wheeled cars are required to carry chains, available from Mansfield. When you pay your resort entry (winter only) you will be advised of the road conditions. Further information on transportation can be found on the Mt Buller site.

First time visitor

When you are staying at Monash University Alpine Lodge, is it your first time heading to the snow? If yes, we have provided an overview of the key information that will help make your stay more enjoyable.

Do I have to pay a resort entry fee?

Yes, all vehicles must pay a resort entry fee to visit the resort during the winter season. This includes maintenance of resort infrastructure, upkeep of Village, car parking, snow clearing and Village shuttle bus.

Do I have to carry wheel chains for my car?

Yes, all 2 wheel drive cars are required to carry chains. It is optional unless sign posted for 4 wheeled cars to carry chains. When you pay your resort entry (winter only) you will be advised of the road conditions. Chain fitting bays and assistance to fit chains are available when chains are required to be fitted.

Can I drive my vehicle to the lodge to drop off my guests and luggage?

No, passenger vehicles are not allowed into the Village centre. Upon entering the resort you will be instructed by attendants on where to park your vehicle. The resort entry fee will include parking. From the car park, you will need to unload your luggage and book a taxi to take you to the Monash University Alpine Lodge.

Can you guarantee there will be snow during my visit?

No, unfortunately it is impossible to predict when snow will fall.  Though, Mt Buller has extensive snow making facilities across the resort to ensure there is adequate snow cover during the winter season.

Can I get lessons?

Yes, Ski and Snowboard lessons are available to all ages and abilities. Lessons are purchased from the lift ticket booths at the base of the mountain.

What is the terrain like?

Mt Buller has a wide range of ski terrain for all abilities from beginners to intermediate through to advanced skiers and snowboarders. The terrain mix is 30% beginner, 45% intermediate, and 25% advanced with everything from groomed runs, to steeps, moguls and off-piste thrills.
