With computers being a major part of most people’s lives these days, the most common problems presented by clients are complaints of stiffness and pain in the upper back, shoulders, neck, and general muscular tension and fatigue. This is almost always caused by long hours spent sitting at a desk or computer.
Bad postural habits, sitting in a fixed position for long periods and eye tension reduce mental clarity and focus.
A professional massage treatment helps remedy many of these modern day problems by releasing tension in the muscles, stimulating blood flow through the muscles, and breaking down and eliminating toxins.
This is where we at Massage at Monash can help.
Massage Types
Remedial Massage
Used for the treatment of soft tissue (Muscle & tendon) injuries. Remedial massage plays an important role in the recovery of soft tissue injuries by doing the following:
- Improves the breakdown of scar tissue build up which may inhibit movement and blood supply to the injured area.
- Increase circulation and nutrients to injured area allowing quicker recovery.
- Helps with proper alignment of muscle fibers.
This treatment consists of slow deep strokes and various musculoskeletal and myotherapy techniques, PNF stretching, Muscle energy techniques when indicated, which work on the deeper layers of muscle, tendons, and ligaments.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is used extensively by professional & weekend sports people alike. A massage before & after a major sporting event can help decrease muscle soreness and help reduce injury after active exercise and sporting activity.
Pre-Event - This type of massage acts as a warm-up specific to the muscles about to be used in the sport. The massage tends to be fast & vigorous so to warm the muscles therefore improving the flexibility and circulation to the muscles.
Post-Event – Is invaluable in helping with the quick repair of micro tears in the muscle fibers after exercise, improving recovery time and significantly decreasing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage uses specific techniques of long strokes and rhythmic movements combined with active and passive movements of muscle groups and joints. Helps to restore muscle tone, reduce muscle soreness and initiates a deep state of relaxation.
