University Blues not so blue
Traditional on-court rivals Monash University and the University of Melbourne have teamed up to enter the Australian Volleyball League in 2006. The unity between the two universities has brought about the existence of the newly formed team, University Blues.
With the creation of the new uniform to reflect the union of Monash University and The University of Melbourne, University Blues is making quite an impression with not only its striking two-toned playing outfit, but the standard of volleyball which this movement has produced.
"This event marks the beginning of a new volleyball partnership aimed at strengthening the national competition and public interest in elite indoor volleyball competition," Melbourne University Renegades Volleyball Club president Gus Cirillo said.
With the high standard of volleyball expected in national league, the University Blues men's team continue to face well established sides, as they adapt to the recent merge. The women's side, on the other hand, have displayed immediate warmth to the combined team currently sitting third in Australia. The University Blues have proven to be a success and will no doubt continue to lift the standard of volleyball across the nation.
Monash Sport, Club Coordinator, Michael Jones stated, "The merge ensures that Monash University and the University of Melbourne can compete at a national level providing an important step to the continuing growth of volleyball at both universities".
