Mixed weather fails to dampen students’ beach day
More than 600 students took to Mordialloc Beach for an action packed beach day during Orientation Week.
Students enjoyed a range of activities including volleyball, tug of war, tunnel ball and team-building games.
Grey clouds threatened to halt the activities early but organisers went ahead with the day and were rewarded with patches of blue sky by early afternoon.
Students were glad of the support from Monash Sport and MONSU Caulfield and Peninsula staff in the running of the day.
“It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve enjoyed the games and the food and getting to know other people in my faculty,” one participant said.
This was the first time MONSU had the assistance of Monash Sport.
Monash Sport Caulfield team leader David Nankervis said Monash Sport hoped to be involved in future Beach Day activities.
“The students had a fantastic time despite the ordinary weather,” Nankervis said.
“It was great to see the Caulfield and Peninsula students mixing before uni had even started.”
Staff from various areas of Monash Sport, from TeamMONASH to the fitness centres and site leaders, helped out setting up and running activities on the day.
