Monash Sport finishes top 10 for Global Corporate Challenge

Monash Sport staff have taken sixth place out of 3,336 teams who took part in the Global Corporate Challenge, a virtual walk around the world which started in Africa.

The event went for 125 days and aimed to have participants increase the number of steps they took per day, with the ultimate goal of having an average daily step count of 10,000. The seven Sport staff finished sixth out of 3,336 with a daily step average of 25,559, traveling 14,313km around the world.

Staff involved with the challenge used various ways to keep their daily step average above the rest in the competition. Tactics included walking to meetings, cycling to work, attending spinning classes, lunch time walks and other forms of daily exercise.

Participant Simon Dart said the challenge was a great experience and something that motivated him to "stop reading the newspaper during my lunch break and go for a walk around campus instead". The entire team noticed a change in their fitness levels after completing the challenge and encourages all Monash staff to get active during the day.
