Fun Day

Friday 20 February

Monash Sport greeted over 400 new first year Monash University students from all over Victoria for the annual Fun Day event. Over 100 of these participants came from Monash College, for many of these this was their introduction to university life, and each other.

Students arrived from 11.30am from Gippsland, Parkville, Caulfield, Peninsula, Berwick and Clayton campuses to participate in various sporting and team building exercises.  Drinks and a lunch for the students were kindly provided by the Sports Café.

The group fitness warm up was an impressive sight, with the 400 plus participants all enjoying the BodyCombat and Hip Hop classes. Matt Yang, Group Fitness Coordinator at Monash Sport Clayton Campus enjoyed seeing so many new faces participating in these classes. “Group Fitness is a great way to build friendships and meet new people, all while having fun and achieving your fitness goals! We offer a wide range of sessions from high powered cardiovascular classes (NRG, BodyAttack, BodyCombat), mind and body relaxation classes (YogaSynergy, Hatha Yoga) and even muscle sculpting classes (BodyPump, Circuit).”

From here the new students split into groups and participated in sporting and team building activities including human tangle, tarp games, volleyball, AFL football, futsal and tunnel-ball. Following this, free time including other activities was available to the students to participate in anything they chose to.
