First Class Hockey Facilities at Monash Peninsula
Saturday 6 September
The Peninsula Hockey Pavilion was officially opened by Mr James Merlino, Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, at the Monash University Peninsula Campus in Frankston.
“We now have a first class facility which we are all very proud of which provides for the needs of community users, staff and students and that will also be used for teaching purposes during the academic year. The facilities installed for teaching will also prove very useful for the clubs and other users.”
The pavilion was first established in 2006 but has not been fully functional until August of this year after receiving additional funding from Monash University. It provides a covered spectator area, space for a canteen and clubrooms in addition to basic changing room facilities, toilets, umpire’s room and storage space.
The Peninsula Hockey Centre is the only synthetic hockey facility in the area. Three hockey clubs are currently call the centre home, Frankston Hockey Club, Mornington Peninsula Hockey Club and Peninsula Women’s Hockey Association.
The pavilion was essentially funded by Frankston City Council ($475,000), Sports and Recreation Victoria ($175,000), Mornington Peninsula Shire ($50,000) and Monash University ($100,000).
