Experiencing the Red Centre with Monash

“I will remember this amazing red land.”
One international student’s response after visiting Central Australia was typical of tourists who take in the view for the first time.

Twenty-four Monash students recently embarked on the annual Red Centre Tour, organised through Monash Sport Trips and Tours.

The 10-day tour took passengers to some of the most breathtaking and significant sites of Australia’s heartland, including Uluru, Kings Canyon, the Olgas and the outback towns of Coober Pedy and Alice Srings.

Renate Zhao, a first-time visitor to the Red Centre, enjoyed the experience
“The trip has truly exceeded my expectations! I missed the chance of going there last year and did it this year.

“Although 10 days is not that long, the experiences I got from the trip will remain for my lifetime,” she said.
Students were given the chance to climbed the 348m to Uluru’s summit and were guided to Aboriginal rock-paintings and caves around its base.

Camel riding and quad biking were on offer at Kings Creek station and opal cutting and polishing was demonstrated at Coober Pedy once the group descended into the earth to visit an underground home and mine.

Accommodation was a combination of cabin and bunkhouse and camping in safari tents all within some of the best resorts situated in central Australia.
