Monash University, Supporting a Worthy CauseThe weekend of Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October saw Monash University enter a team in the Relay for Life event. The event aims to raise money for cancer research, education and prevention programs and support services. It is the worlds largest fundraising event, with over 20 countries hosting such events in multiple venues. This year marked the 10th Anniversary of the event being hosted at the Duncan MacKinnon Athletics Track. The Monash University team successfully kept the baton moving through all 24 hours to complete the event. There were many participants from TeamMONASH™ including ten participants from the Monash Access program that led off the relay at noon on the Saturday. Special efforts from Monash Sport staff members Sue Drummond and Jess Davidson who both put in an enormous amount of hours on the track. Kylie Krause and Christel Kent (Monash Sport staff from Peninsula) had fun covering the late night and early morning shifts. Christel commented that “it was a great event, a beautiful warm night and was terrific wearing the TeamMONASH™ shirt on the track” The event successfully raised over $90,000 for Cancer Care.
