By Alicia Hayes
The women’s softball team yesterday qualified for the gold-medal match after defeating unbeaten Sydney University 7-3.
Ebony Fitzgerald led TeamMONASHTM to victory with two magnificent catches in the outfield.
Monash and Sydney University seemed evenly matched in the first two innings, with both teams scoring one home run.
In the third innings, however, Monash’s pitcher, Shennae Searl, found her swing and easily struck out Sydney’s first two batters.
Monash won the game in the fifth innings when four home runs were scored courtesy of a huge hit by Sarah Quirk.
Yesterday’s game was begun with a minute silence for the Griffith University student who was tragically killed Wednesday morning.
