Sport Awards 2005

A record 205 people attended the Monash University Sport Awards on Friday 25 th November. Well deserving awardees were recognised for their sporting achievements and contributions over the last year and Alumni and wheelchair athlete, Kerrie Duff (nee Engel) was inducted into the Hall of Fame. The CEO of Hawthorn Football Club, Ian Robson spoke on the night, inspiring the room whilst drawing from his experiences at Hawthorn and previously at Sport Scotland. A great multi-media presentation highlighting recreational sporting participants through to elite sportspeople was uplifting and celebratory after an excellent year of sport at Monash University. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Larkins presented the Blues Awards and expressed his support for sport and the importance of the awards.

A star contributor in 2005, Rosanda Buljubasich received a Monash University Sports Award for her significant contribution in soccer to inter-university and club sport as well as the sport manager of the year award for her superb administrative and team management skills. Another featured athlete on the night was tennis player Meryl Johnston, who was awarded as a Full Blue, female athlete of the year and as a member of the Australian University Games winning team of the year. The handball (Caulfield) and Snowsports (Clayton) clubs could not be separated for their fantastic 2005 efforts as joint winners of the club of the year.

The "John White" Volunteer of the Year Award was presented this year for the first time. John White is a former Monash University Academic and huge supporter of sport at Monash University. Campus Life staff member, Lawrence Cupido received this award for his fantastic volunteerism throughout the year, including at Community fitness events and in training and developing Monash University students.
