Stepping into the Mothers Day Classic

Wednesday 15 April

Participants have been in training for the Mothers Day Classic in May. Monash Sport has been conducting free walking/running groups every day of the week. They have been held at all Victorian campuses.

The numbers participating in the free walking groups have been slowly increasing thanks to interest from a wide range on University staff, from all Victorian campuses.

Of particular note is the importance of training for the event, Marcia Larose who coordinates the walk at the Berwick Campus says “training helps the participants prepare for the event, but more importantly these walks assist in getting people active and away from their desks for half an hour of fresh air”.

The Mothers Day Classic event also raises awareness for breast cancer, which strikes one in nine Australian women. The event on Mothers Day is the biggest community fundraising event for breast cancer in Australia. With over 67,000 people participating nationally, this walk/run event gives people the chance to make a real difference to the lives of those diagnosed with breast cancer.

All proceeds from the Mothers Day Classic are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that promotes and supports research for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

This year we are aiming to have 1,000 TeamMONASH™ participants. We encourage those who have previously attended to take part again and bring their family and friends along.

TeamMONASH™ registrations for the Mothers Day Classic event are open from 5pm Monday 9 March until 5pm Friday 1 May. Enter before Friday 24 April to qualify for the early bird registration discount.
