Monash Performs Strongly at Victorian Age Swimming Championships
Recently crowned ‘Australian Unity Swim Club of the Year’ Monash University Swim Club proved it’s worth at the recent Victorian Age Championships held at Melbourne Sport and Aquatic Centre.
A team of 21 swimmers represented the Monash University Swimming Club. Over the course of the five day event a total of 13 medals were won by a number of swimmers, this included 2 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze.
Gold medals were won by 16 year old Lyarna Graham in the 200m freestyle, she recorded a time of 2.06.97. Also winning gold was 14 year old Kahlia Marsh who won the 200m butterfly with a personal best time of 2.24.19. Graham and Marsh also won 2 silvers each for their respective events.
Bronze medals were won by Marsh, and 15 year olds Isabelle Robinson and Marko Ivosev. This comes days after Robinson finished fifth overall in the prestigious Lorne Pier to Pub open water swim.
The 14 and under men’s relay team are off to the national championships after making qualifying times in both the 4x50m medley relay and the 4x50m freestyle relay .
Over the 5 day event 30 personal best times were achieved by the swimmers from the Monash University Swim Club. The personal best times achieved by the swimmers allowed many to qualify for the National Age Championships, and a select few to qualify for Australian Open Championships to be held in Sydney in April and March respectively.
World Championship Medallist Tay Zimmer will be competing at the Australian Open Championships representing the Monash University Swim Club.
