Talent ID Testing Schools

Monday 16 February 2009

Monash University opened the doors of its new High Performance Sports Centre (HPSC) on Monday 16 February to Southwood Boys Grammar. The school was the first to experience the Student Health & Education Program (SHEP) as developed by Monash Sport.

The program aims to assess, educate and talent ID students, enabling students to improve their health and exercise knowledge whilst potential high performance athletes can be identified.

Once known as the Melbourne Cricket Centre, the facility boasts 1500 square metres of fully netted indoor training areas, gym & circuit training facilities, a medical room, large boardroom and administration space. The centre is a truly unique facility in Victoria, and the University sporting sector.

The HPSC will double as a training facility for Monash University’s elite athletes.  The use of this facility is provided by the support of the University’s Elite Athlete Support Program.

The centre will also cater for the needs of our Talent ID and School Health & Sport testing programs while continuing to offer the general public access to a quality indoor facility, and operating as a testing centre for schools in the south-eastern suburbs.

This unique facility also opens up opportunities to establish strategic alliances to provide expertise and research opportunities for other elite sporting teams, community groups and state government sectors.

The Monash Sport Student Health Education Program (SHEP), is a 4 tier health-related fitness testing program.  The program allows for testing and reporting at all levels.

Beginning with health and basic fitness testing, then leading through to more specific detailed testing of potential elite athletes as a pathway to the High Performance levels and a possible career in Sport.

The program provides coaches/educators/parents with extensive, individual reports on each student athlete and results, which are compared to each of the student athletes at a national & international standard.
