Tasmania Tour

A group of 26 excited Monash and Victoria University students boarded the Spirit of Tasmania on Tuesday November 22 set for an all encompassing tour of the Apple Isle. The crossing from Melbourne to Devenport disagreed with some more than others but all were ready to tackle Freycinet National Park and the world famous Wineglass Bay.

Although the walk to the viewing platform and beach of Wineglass Bay was difficult the views were certainly worth the effort. The first day was rounded up by visits to other parts of the national park followed by a delicious dinner at Coles Bay.

The next day saw us heading south towards Port Arthur with a few sightseeing stops along the way. At Port Arthur we enjoyed a guided tour and cruise around the Isle of the Dead followed by an eerie ghost tour later that evening (the thought of the commandant's house stills give me the shivers).

After resting for the night in Port Arthur it was time to head inland towards Hobart, but first was the Cadbury's chocolate fatory tour (I can still taste the turkish delight straight off the production line - yummy). The remainder of the day was spent sightseeing around Hobart before enjoying an evening Derwent River cruise and a night out on the town.

Saturday is Salamanca market day in Hobart with lots of arts and crafts, fresh produce and entertainment on offer. After our shopping fix it was time to board the coach and head north towards Devenport taking in the historic town of Ross and the beautiful Cataract Gorge in Launceston along the way.

An overnight cruise across Bass Strait back to Melbourne saw the conclusion of a very successful first Monash Sport Tasmania tour.
