Uni Blues Claim Bronze Medal

Sunday 7 December

The weekend of 6 and 7 December saw the MAVL finals series take place at Albert Park.

The first semi final saw Uni Blues take on the QLD Pirates in a somewhat one sided affair. Uni Blues go down in the first set, the QLD attack proving too powerful and taking the Blues by surprise, 25-16.

Second set sees the Blues back on their game coming back from a 5 point deficit to take the set 25-20. QLD take the next two sets and the match, 3 sets to one.  Uni Blues go into the bronze medal match.

Sunday sees the Blues fresh and ready for their shot at the bronze medal against an evenly matched UTSSU.  Uni Blues take an early lead in set one, showing they have something to prove, but UTSSU crawl back, evening the scores at 18-18.  Scores remain even and the set goes to overtime, with the Blues taking it eventually 18-26.

Set two and the Blues are feeling confident, although at one point difference for most of the set, the Blues can’t afford to be arrogant. Big blocks force errors from UTTSU and the Blues take the second set 25-22.

An even start again to the third set, both sides know this could be the game. The set goes point for point until more errors from UTSSU start appearing, the Blues have a taste of victory. A few big serves and it’s all over, Blues win the match and the bronze medal. Well done, MAVL bronze medalists.

Uni Blues Into Finals Series

All teams struggled with the humidity in Brisbane as most games are fairly even, and decided in the last sets.

Uni Blues finished 3rd on the ladder after Round 4 in hot muggy Brisbane on the weekend, and is through to the finals, to be played this weekend. Uni Blues beat the Canberra Heat and UTSSU, but lost to the AIS and QLD Pirates, full results below

The finals series will be played at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre in Albert Park. The semi finals will be played this Saturday 6 December with the finals to be played on Sunday 7 December, both days play starts at 1pm.
