World University Winter Games
Wednesday 4 March, 2009
Harbin China, also known as "Ice City" was this years setting for the World University Winter Games held from 18 to 28 February.
Temperatures ranged from -8 to -21 degrees for the cold week, a stark difference from the Australian summer for the six Australian athletes chosen to represent their country.
One of the six athletes was Simon Flower, who studies Medicine at Monash University’s Clayton campus.
Competing in three events, cross-country sprint, 10km cross-country and 7.5km cross-country pursuit, Flower did Monash University proud, finishing in the top 100 in the world in all events.
Simon has competed in various State, National and International competitions in the past and is looking forward to the 2009 Australian ski season to further his cross-country career. |
