School Swimming Program

The Doug Ellis Swimming Pool at Monash University specialises in swimming lessons for primary school groups. Our 2 x 25m indoor pools, one of which features an adjustable depth floor capable of being set to any depth between 0 and 2.1m, enable us to offer 500 square metres of pool space at less than 1m depth- ideal for school children. These pools in conjunction with our Leisure pool enable us to adapt to your requirements and provide a custom-made teaching environment.

Some important features include:

• Two week intensive programs, based on the swim and survive program put together by the Royal Life Saving Society Australia.
• Preference will be given to schools with intensive programs. We believe this produces better results than one lesson per week over the course of ten weeks because the children can build on and consolidate their skills and confidence before any newly acquired abilities are forgotten.
• Usual class sizes of 10 students per instructor (but ratio can be altered to suit your needs).
• Should you wish to use your own teachers, or a combination of your own teachers and our instructors, prices can be altered accordingly.
• Minimum qualification of all instructors is a current Austswim Certificate.
• Many instructors with competitive strokes and teaching infants qualifications
• 2 specialist change room areas "Family & School" are available (and are separate from the men's public change room) which allows your teachers or parents to supervise the children when changing.
• Entry fees and swimming teacher hire rates are discounted during terms 2 and 3 when the facility is quieter and less congested. Since swimming at the Monash University Pool is an indoor activity and not weather dependent, scheduling your program at these times allows you to take advantage of our lower rates whilst retaining the warmer terms of 1 and 4 to program your outdoor activities.

Transport

As an additional service to your school, transportation can also be arranged on your behalf.
